About The Apiary Newtonmore
Welcome to The Apiary Newtonmore — the newest hive in the family, and the little sister to our much-loved Apiary @ Dalwhinnie just up the A9.
Tucked inside the clubhouse at Newtonmore Golf Club, we’ve set up shop in one of the most glorious settings in the Cairngorms — with the Monadhliath mountains as our backdrop and the River Spey winding its way past the fairways. You don’t need to be a golfer to drop in (though if you’ve just come off the 18th, we’ll have the kettle on). Walkers, cyclists, families, dog-walkers, shinty fans and passing road-trippers are all just as welcome. Muddy boots, paws and spikes — bring the lot.
“The same bees, a different hive”
If you’ve been to Dalwhinnie, you already know what to expect: proper coffee, cakes that Nicki has almost certainly had a hand in, generous Scottish breakfasts, hot lunches to warm you through after a round in the rain, and that “walking into someone’s front room” feeling that Mike and Nicola have built their wee empire on. We treat our customers like framily — friends that are family — and we do your washing up too.
The bee on the door isn’t just for show. Mike’s a beekeeper, and the Apiary name has always been about bringing bees, coffee and cake together under one roof. Ask him about it — he’ll happily talk your ear off.
Flying the flag for the Highlands
Just like our sister café down the road, we’re fiercely proud of where we are and what we put on the plate. Over 90% of what we buy comes from Scotland — meat, dairy, cheese, baking ingredients, charcuterie, soft drinks, craft beer, gin and a rather good dram or two. Our scones, cakes and savouries are made with Highland ingredients wherever we can get them, and our coffee is roasted just outside Edinburgh by Matthew Algie, who also support the John Muir Award — so every cup does a tiny bit of good, too.
Come say hello
Whether you’re here to play the course, passing through Newtonmore on the way to somewhere else, or just need a decent lunch and a warm seat — we’d love to see you. Pop in, pull up a chair, and let us look after you.
